Local Groups

The Association encourages the formation of local groups and provides insurance cover for all members while attending a Local Group meeting and also whilst demonstrating at a public event as part of a Local Group.

Local groups have a character of their own, some meet very regularly, some less frequently and some run special activity days. Some have a fixed venue and some rotate round venues in the area. There is no charge to join a local group but most operate a kitty system to cover tea and coffee and the like.

Local Groups are a great way to meet local green woodworkers and extend your skill base. Look at the list below and see if there is a local group near you.

Do get in touch with the Local Group Leader and find out what their activities include. You are welcome to pop into any local group in the country but are advised to contact the leader before you do to check when and where their next meeting is taking place.

Local Group Definition 2023/24

Local Groups have at least one dedicated named coordinator who has overall responsibility for running the group and managing health and safety, in addition Local Groups are covered by the wider Association’s insurance policy.  Local Group meetings are open to all APTGW members not just those within the geographical area and are either free to attend or incur a small cover charge to cover site rental and or materials. Local groups should not be run as a business for personal profit.

Local Groups have the full support of the organisation and are entitled to apply for Local Group grant funding from the APTGW, when grant budget is available.
