Curtis Buchanan's Windsor chair videos

Postby Follansbee » Sun Mar 17, 2013 1:14 pm

Finally I have a reason to write again to this forum. Among the top tier of American Windsor chairmakers is Curtis Buchanan. Many readers have seen his home-made videos on Youtube about making his comb-back Windsor chair. These have been available for free for ages...but now Curtis is selling them as a set of 10 discs, plus one with 36 views of the finished chair. These videos take you all the way from buying the logs at the log yard/sawmill to the final finish on the chair. Curtis' generosity is legendary among his chairmaking students (including me 25 years ago) - buying the set of discs is a way for us to say "thank-you" for all the teaching & sharing Curtis has done over the years. He has made a 3-page set of full-scale drawings of the chair available as well. Both the discs and drawings are very reasonably priced.

Curtis' website is here

I wrote just a bit more on my blog recently, but essentially the same entry

I followed this series of videos as they came up on u tube. Wonderful, Curtis has an easy manner and a skill that is beyond most of us but puts it over in a way that makes you want to have a go. I learnt so much from them. I would love to buy that set of discs, but how do we do that here in the UK?
