Thanks for the link, billman. I have a number of his books but not the one you mention. They are not hard to find, as you say. Sloane's drawings alone are worth the price of the books; he was a superb artist.

Not sure if this link has been posted before: ... a/#respond - it concerns Finnish axes - including a blueprint for an axe handle, how to judge the correct length and good photos showing the preferred direction of the grain...
