I use my axe for lots of the work on the bird - including shaving down to the hinge and shaping the birds body, its like a big fast knife!

Just made a bird from a piece of Leylandii. It was cut down on Thursday, and is nice and wet. It may be a bit too wet as the "feathers" came out a bit rough where the grain has torn out. All was going well until my knife had a go at my finger  Need to find a copy of "Fan Carving", and a box of plasters.
