Latest bowl with carving

Got a load of green sycamore on Friday so couldn't wait to get turning.

I've also recently got some new earth pigments, so looking forward to painting it. More info and pics on the blog:

Very good. Enjoyed the blog page too, the knife handles & the scraper wallet.
Re. you split seat, what a shame. A couple of weeks ago I tried carving a box for a sharpening stone out of some leftover oak. It went quite well at first but ended up splitting end-to-end, like your seat while hollowing it with a chisel. Not sure how we avoid that. In your case, perhaps you could have made it as a bowl and then saw one end off when you are done? I was at a country fair yesterday and could have bought a vintage oil stone (in v.good condition) in a gnarly but nice old wooden box for £2...
